A former Alabama legend on offense under Nick Saban started the conversation, but now one of the best pass rushers in the Saban era for the Crimson Tide wants to add his input.
Trent Richardson, a two-time BCS National Championship running back (2009 and 2011), said Alabama quarterback Bryce Young should return to school for his senior season. Richardson wants to see the California native lead his Alma mater to a College Football Playoff National Championship as the starting signal-caller. Young fell short in 2021 against Georgia and the Tide did not make the CFP this season. Richardson said on The Developmental Focus Point via The Bama Standard that he wouldn’t feel right leaving Alabama without having a national championship as a starter. Young, who has captured numerous individual honors in his collegiate career, could be the No. 1 overall selection in the NFL Draft next April for Coach Saban.

Tim Williams, a former sacks specialist, shares Richardson’s sentiment. As a Louisiana native, he helped the Tide to a CFP National Championship in 2015. Williams became one of the college football’s most fearsome pass rushers in 2015 and 2016, totaling 28.5 tackles for loss, 19.5 sacks, and 16 quarterback hurries. He said via Twitter that Young needs to return to Alabama and win a national championship. Williams said Young ‘needs to show he can win a ring under heavy pressure like the quarterbacks before him.’ Jacob Coker was the starting quarterback for the 2015 team Williams played on for a title.
Young received permanent team captain honors during Alabama’s annual awards banquet.
He graduated from the University of Alabama last week with a bachelor’s degree in three years.
