One of the best draft topics is how many quarterbacks will get selected in the first round. A talented class is ready to take the stage, but will something special happen for Alabama head coach Nick Saban? He has accomplished many things in 16 seasons at the University of Alabama, yet the Crimson Tide’s head man has not produced the No. 1 overall pick in a draft class.
Bryce Young, Alabama’s junior quarterback, could give Saban the feat.
He’s turned in two strong years as a starter, including a Heisman Trophy-winning campaign in 2021. Young set single-season school marks for passing yards (4,872), passing touchdowns (47), and total touchdowns (50). The California native led the Tide to a Southeastern Conference Championship and nearly a College Football Playoff National Championship. He battled adversity this season, but he managed to total 27 scoring tosses, 3,007 passing yards, and 31 total scores. Young put Alabama in a position for a CFP opportunity; however, two losses have sent it to the Allstate Sugar Bowl. He has everything needed — except ideal size — to become an elite quarterback in the National Football League. Some do not have Young as the No. 1 overall pick, but one draft pundit does. According to CBS Sports’ Ryan Wilson, the 2020 CFP National Champion projects as the No. 1 pick for the draft.

The Houston Texans hold the first overall pick.
If Young goes No. 1, he would be reunited with former Tide receiver John Metchie. Metchie caught a team-high 96 passes from Young in 2021 for 1,142 yards and eight touchdowns.
