Alabama football got major news Tuesday with Will Reichard deciding to return to school for a fifth season.
He recently accepted his invitation to the Reese’s Senior Bowl, but Reichard posted on Twitter that he’s coming back to the Crimson Tide. As the Tide’s all-time leader for career points, Reichard has been one of the most consistent specialists of the Nick Saban era. His return gives Alabama a reliable player on kickoffs, field goals, and PAT attempts.
Reichard was perfect on all 14 field goals and 84 PAT attempts in 2020, helping the Tide to a College Football Playoff National Championship. He made over 80 percent of his kicks in 2020, including a 49-yard try versus Kansas State in the Allstate Sugar Bowl.
Connor Talty, a three-star, arrived in this recent signing class. He has the potential to be a good kicker, but he needs to be developed in Alabama’s system. Jack Martin transferred to Houston, which left Reichard as the kicker with the most experience.
Alabama fans were highly disappointed with kickers before Reichard, but the Hoover (Ala.) native has made Tide supporters proud. Saban will have no issues with special teams with Reichard returning.
