Nick Saban has graduated a special offensive mind to a new position at a new program.
Alex Mortensen, son of ESPN analyst Chris Mortensen, served as an off-field offensive analyst at Alabama from 2019 to 2022.

He was instrumental in the success of quarterbacks Tua Tagovailoa, Mac Jones, and Bryce Young. Mortensen’s attention to detail helped Jones lead the Crimson Tide to a College Football Playoff National Championship in 2020. He also guided Young to propel Alabama to a Southeastern Conference Championship in 2021 while helping him become the program’s first Heisman Trophy-winning quarterback. Mortensen was a graduate assistant on Saban’s staff from 2014 to 2018, witnessing six SEC Championships and three CFP National Championships. He has officially been named the offensive coordinator for the University of Alabama at Birmingham. UAB announced the news about hiring the 37-year-old via Twitter. Mortensen is a former college quarterback.

He helped mentor six 3,000-yard passing seasons for Alabama.
