Explosive edge-rusher Jamonta Waller earns Alabama offer, schedules visit

Jamonta Waller

Alabama football jumped in on the recruitment of explosive 2024 edge-rusher, Jamonta Waller, Wednesday.

Waller attends Picayune High School in Picayune, Mississippi, and he is a member of the 2024 recruiting class. The Mississippi product holds 17 D1 offers, including offers from Auburn, Arkansas and Penn State.

Austin Armstrong, one of Alabama’s newest defensive coaching hires, informed Waller of his offer from the Crimson Tide when the 2024 recruit was putting in work in the weight room.

“It was just an amazing feeling, just knowing all the work I put in,” Waller said. “When Alabama comes to my mind, I just think about the grit, the effort. I mean it is Alabama. It is the standard. When you play Alabama, you know you are going to get your best game.”

Waller will visit Tuscaloosa next month. The junior plans to be on the campus of the University of Alabama on March 4 for the Crimson Tide’s early March junior-day event.

Armstrong complimented Waller’s explosiveness and his fierce playing style when offering him.

At 6-foot-2 and 225 pounds, Waller’s size gives him an opportunity to flourish as an edge rusher or as an off-the-ball linebacker at the next level. He explodes out of his stance off the edge with the ability to play smoothly in space. He is open to being used in a variety of ways on the defensive front at the next level.

“I would like to do both,” Waller told Touchdown Alabama. “I want to still rush the passer and drop back, cover a running back. I mean it would not be a bad thing.”
