AJ McCarron admonishes referees for multiple “missed calls” in Battlehawks loss to DC Defenders

AJ McCarron (#10) attempts a pass for St. Louis Battlehawks in XFL Game.

Nick Saban knows how to work referees well on the sideline, so it’s only right that one of his former quarterbacks is good at it.

AJ McCarron, the starting quarterback for the St. Louis Battlehawks of the XFL, was not happy after the Battlehawks suffered its first loss Sunday to the DC Defenders. McCarron tossed an interception, but he responded with four touchdown passes in a 28-34 defeat for St. Louis. He’s been jubilant after his first two press conferences, but the former Alabama signal-caller was visibly frustrated with the officiating of the game. He admonished referees for multiple “missed calls” in the loss.

“I will speak on this, the league has to find a better way to get these calls right,” McCarron said. “We had three to four times in the game where the refs came back to us and said, ‘we missed that call’ and apologized. They straight up apologized, and it was at times that you cannot miss those calls.”

McCarron provided details on the missed calls he referred to, stating how the XFL has to protect players.

Hopefully, the league cleans this up. The Battlehawks take its 2-1 record home to face the Arlington Renegades next week.
