The Las Vegas Raiders are not letting the 2022 NFL rushing champion leave it as a free agent.

Josh Jacobs, a University of Alabama alum, did not have the fifth-year option of his rookie contract picked up.

He chose to bet on himself and turned in a career year for the Raiders. The Oklahoma native finished first in rushing yards (1,653), second for rushing attempts (340), and tied for fifth in rushing touchdowns (12). He posted six 100+ yard rushing performances, including a career-high 229 yards in a 40-34 victory for the Raiders over Seattle in overtime. Jacobs had three matchups where he scored 2+ rushing touchdowns. He earned the inaugural Jim Brown Award, which goes to the player with the most rushing yards for a single season in the NFL. Jacobs went to his second Pro Bowl and made first-team All-Pro.

Tom Pelissero of NFL Network reports the Raiders are expected to franchise tag Jacobs for next season if both parties do not reach a deal by Tuesday’s deadline. The 5-foot-10, 220-pounder was the heartbeat of the Raiders’ offense.

Jacobs would make a little over $10 million ($10.091 M) on the tag tender.
