Bryce Young is now considered the favorite to be the Carolina Panthers No. 1 selection in the 2023 NFL Draft, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.
Young came to the University of Alabama as a five-star recruit and as the No. 1 dual-threat quarterback in the country. He lived up to the hype during his time in Tuscaloosa by winning the Heisman Trophy as a sophomore during his first year as a full-time starter.
The California native is now considered one of the top quarterback prospects in the 2023 NFL Draft Class, and Schefter feels he is the favorite to be the No. 1 overall pick at the moment.
“I think going into the process of evaluating the quarterbacks, I think that Bryce Young is the favorite to become the No. 1 overall pick,” Schefter said Thursday on NFL Live.
Schefter previously reported there was a ‘belief’ the Panthers’ organization was torn on who to select with the No. 1 pick. He explained why he now feels Young is the favorite later in the show.

“I think Bryce Young is to the Panthers, what Mac Jones was to the 49ers when they traded up,” Schefter added. “They traded up with the idea that they really like Mac Jones, and they went through the process and round up on Trey Lance. I think in this particular case, this team moved up with the idea that Bryce Young was the guy they loved. They also really like CJ Stroud…I think at the beginning of the process, it starts out with Bryce Young as the favorite.”
