An Alabama linebacker is eager to return to the field with his teammates.
Deontae Lawson, a redshirt sophomore, is missing spring practice because he’s recovering from surgery.

He earned valuable playing time in 2022 as a backup weakside “Will” linebacker to Jaylen Moody. Lawson recorded 51 total tackles, 2.5 tackles for loss, and four pass breakups in 11 games — including four starts. The 6-foot-2, 230-pounder came to the Crimson Tide as a four-star in its 2021 recruiting class. Sources have told Touchdown Alabama Magazine that his recovery is going well, and an Alabama strength coach posted an update to social media about Lawson. He responded to UJ Johnson’s post with two hourglass emojis. Coach Nick Saban told reporters after the first spring practice that Lawson should not have any issues moving forward.

Several players have gotten reps in Lawson’s absence, but Tide fans will be excited when he returns.
