Pleasant Grove QB Eric Handley ready for big spring

Pleasant Grove’s junior quarterback, Eric Handley is ready to show some big improvements this spring.

Handley led the Spartans to a 9-1 record last season before they fell to Ramsay in the class 5A playoffs. He finished the year with 2,921 passing yards and 40 passing touchdowns while completing 68 percent of his passes.

The 2024 recruit holds offers from Mercer, Austin Peay, UAB, Kentucky, New Mexico and Troy. His recruitment is trending upwards with a big spring expected for him.

South Alabama is just one of the programs showing major interest in Handley.

“South Alabama is definitely recruited me heavily,” Handley said. “They want to get me down on campus again for the summer and hopefully that is when it happens. The process is slow because of the transfer Portal.”

North Carolina is interested in Handley as well. He plans to get back there this summer to camp.

“I have been to Chapel Hill a couple of times, going back on June 4,” said Handley.

Memphis, Arkansas State, Troy and UAB are all programs that plan to visit Pleasant Grove this spring. The Spartans’ QB1 wants to show he is a leader on and off the field when they swing through.

Just show that I can be a leader,” said Handley. “I’ve been a little banged up, but the part of the game I really want to improve is my mobility because a lot of folks feel think that is what is holding me back. I want to show I can run it, and I can make plays with my feet when I need to, just showing them I get better. I’ve been playing high school going on the end of my fifth year now and have been playing varsity since the eighth grade, so just showing improvement, showing that I get better every year as a player and as a leader.”

At 6-foot-2 and 180 pounds, Handley has a cannon for an arm. His ability to push the ball down the field jumps out on film.
