Jalen Hurts earned the respect of the players in Alabama’s locker room in a major way after he was benched in the National Championship game.
Former Alabama wide receiver, Mac Hereford recalled the meeting Hurts called after he was taken out as the Crimson Tide’s starter in a recent podcast.
“The media portrayed him like he is wanting to change, Jalen Hurts taking the easy way out, his dad wants this, whatever,” Hereford said. “He had a team meeting. He called it by himself, just to tell the team. He’s like, look, I’m staying here with you guys. Like I’m staying here with you guys this year. I’m going to give it all I’ve got. And like most people again, would’ve been like, screw this. I just did all this for this program, and they want to bench me. Like, what is that?”
The year after @JalenHurts got benched at Alabama, he said this to the team in a players-only meeting. There’s a reason he’s one of the best in the league 🔥 pic.twitter.com/8nsjASLP6N
