Eli Gold, the voice of Alabama football, gave another positive update on his health during an interview with WNSP-FM 105.5’s, “The Opening Kickoff” on Thursday. Gold shared that his latest PET scan showed that he is cancer free following a year-long battle with his health.
“No cancer, Gold said. “I was free and clear of cancer. Now, it’s just a matter of getting stronger and being ready for the start of the season.”
Gold was sidelined during the 2022 season as he recovered from his health concerns with Chris Stewart taking up the play-by-play duties for the Crimson Tide’s football season.

“I don’t mind telling you we were bags of nerves, all of us. My wife, my daughter,” Gold said. “And the doctor walked in, and it was a female, and she said, ‘You’re free and clear. There’s no cancer to be found anywhere.'”
The 69-year-old shared that he had to relearn how to walk after temporarily losing the ability. This resulted in Gold losing nearly 150 pounds during his recovery.
Gold had also previously stated that he intends to make his return to the booth this fall for Alabama’s 2023 season.
