Former Alabama players selected in XFL Rookie Draft

Jahleel Billingsley drags feet to score a touchdown in Alabama football's win over Florida

Former Alabama players, Jahleel Billingsley and Chadarius Townsend were chosen in the XFL Rookie Draft.

Billingsley was selected by the San Antonio Brahmas and Townsend went to the Seattle Sea Dragons.

The duo crossed paths briefly for one year at Alabama in 2019, but neither one of them was able to make a big enough impact for Coach Saban. Townsend bounced around multiple position groups before finally seeing the field as a running back, where he had just eight carries and 22 yards in 2019. Townsend decided to transfer to Texas Tech for the 2020 season, where he played out the rest of his college football serving a similar role as he did at Alabama. As for Billingsley, he put together a couple of solid seasons in 2020 and 2021 as a backup tight end and was expected to have a break-out junior year, but some off-the-field incidents kept him from that. This lead him to make the decision to transfer from Alabama to Texas where he hoped to reconcile his playing career and put his best foot forward with Coach Steve Sarkisian. Unfortunately for Billingsley, the same issues that plagued him in Tuscaloosa, also followed him to Texas, and he was suspended for the first six games of the 2022 season.

The Sea Dragons had a relatively potent offense in their inagural year finishing with an impressive 7-3 record, the Brahmas however, weren’t as successful. San Antonio had the second-lowest-scoring offense with 169 points to pair with their woeful 3-7 record and could use some firepower at the tight end position. Bilinglsey and Townsend are former four-star prospects, whose best playing days could likely still be ahead of them.
