Summary
Tyler Buchner is the biggest surprise in Alabama’s quarterback room.
No one separated themselves in the spring game, so Nick Saban brought more competition at quarterback.
Buchner committed to the Crimson Tide from the NCAA transfer portal during the week of the NFL Draft. He had a good high school career in California, but the Coronavirus pandemic caused him to miss his senior year. Buchner played ten games as a freshman at Notre Dame, compiling 298 passing yards, 336 rushing yards, six total touchdowns, and three interceptions.
He suffered an injury early in the 2022 season. Buchner played three games, but his best performance came in the Taxslayer Gator Bowl against South Carolina. He suffered some turnovers, but Buchner propelled the Fighting Irish to a 45-38 victory.
