JK Scott was the lone punter in the Nick Saban era at Alabama people spoke a lot about.

No one discusses the punter because it means the offense is not moving the ball well. Scott had an incredible leg during his career (2014-17) and it was needed to keep games close with field position. James Burnip, a redshirt junior from Australia, enters his third season at the University of Alabama. After a good first year in 2021, he averaged 42.3 yards per punt on 44 attempts last season. The 6-foot-6, 220-pounder had six punts travel 50+ yards, including a 58-yard attempt. Burnip dropped several balls inside the opponents’ 20-yard line, but he’s looking to be better in the fall. He has been putting in work to perfect his craft.

The Tide hopes to not have to punt a lot, but Burnip’s leg could be an asset with a new starting quarterback.
