According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, John Metchie has been cleared to participate in training camp.

He missed his rookie season last year because of recovering from a treatable form of cancer. Metchie has passed through every checkpoint and is prepared to recapture his rookie campaign in the fall. The native Canadian got selected in the second round of the 2022 NFL Draft by the Texans. DeMeco Ryans, Houston’s head coach, has been pleased with Metchie’s progress.

He played at the University of Alabama from 2019 to 2021. Metchie, a former four-star, totaled 55 receptions for 916 yards receiving and six touchdowns in Alabama’s undefeated College Football Playoff National Championship season in 2020.

He returned with a team-high 96 catches in 2021 for 1,142 yards and eight touchdowns in 2021. Metchie assisted the Crimson Tide to a Southeastern Conference Championship, but an injury kept him from competing in the CFP. Alabama fans are excited to see what he does now in the pros.
