Perry Thompson feels Hugh Freeze can develop him to the next level as wide receiver more than Nick Saban

Perry Thompson revealed Monday one of the reasons he decided to flip his commitment from Alabama to Auburn at the Baldwin County Media Day.

Thompson announced he was flipping to the Tigers on Saturday. The Foley product and five-star recruit considered multiple factors before announcing his decision. One of those factors was the head coaches at both programs.

“I looked at Nick Saban and Hugh Freeze,” Thompson said. “Nick Saban, good coach. You know all the stuff he had through college football and all that. But I know he specializes in DBs (defensive backs) and my main position is receiver, and I know Hugh Freeze got a background in developing receivers to the higher level, just that how he gets receivers to their highest point.”

Saban has worked closely with defensive backs throughout his time in Tuscaloosa, but that has not stopped Alabama from developing wide receivers at an impressive level. The Crimson Tide have had five wide receivers selected in the first round of the NFL Draft over the last four years.

Freeze also has some wide receivers of note next to his name, dating back to his time at Ole Miss. Laquon Treadwell and A.J. Brown are the most noticeable from his stint at Ole Miss.
