Alabama DL Tim Keenan capitalizing on weight loss, good spring

Alabama football’s redshirt sophomore defensive lineman, Tim Keenan has carried the momentum he built during the spring to the Crimson Tide’s fall camp.

Keenan, who is a product of Ramsay High School in Birmingham, Alabama, received praise from Nick Saban Saturday after the Crimson Tide’s final scrimmage of fall camp. Saban discussed the Alabama native when assessing Alabama’s defensive line’s performance during fall camp.

“Tim Kennan has had a really good camp,” Saban said. “Justin (Eboigbe) has done a really good job. We just need more guys to play with more consistency and can’t make mistakes in pass rush lanes, can’t make mistakes when we’re running stunts and…pressures. That’s one thing that we need to continue to work on cleaning up.”

The Crimson Tide’s veteran defensive lineman, Justin Eboigbe dove deeper into what has contributed to Keenan’s ‘good camp’ when talking to the media on Tuesday.

“He is a big body, but he is a lean big body,” Eboigbe said of Keenan on Tuesday. “He has lost a lot of weight. He is strong. He is powerful, somebody who shows who he can be. He is a great guy on the field, off the field. That is all that you can ask for. He is very dependable.”

The former four-star is listed at 6-foot-2 and 315 pounds on Alabama’s online roster. He was listed 335 pounds when he was a freshman in 2021.

Keenan started to turn heads during spring football for the Tide. He was named a ‘most improved player’ after A-Day. A source, who attended one of Alabama’s scrimmages before the spring game described him as ‘much improved.’

“Tim has slimmed down, shows quickness, strength, getting off blocks and making plays,” another source stated. “He had a pretty good scrimmage last week, even better today.”

A relaible and tough defensive line would pay huge dividends for Alabama this season. This improvement from Keenan could play a huge role in that.
