Alabama senior defensive back Malachi Moore is one player who has stepped up through the offseason and fall camp and made an impression on his teammates and coaches.
As he enters his final season with the Crimson Tide, Moore has taken on a greater role on the field learning multiple positions in secondary. But perhaps the greatest asset Moore brings to the team is his ability to communicate on the backend of the defense which is an area Nick Saban believes is where Moore sets himself apart from the rest of the team.
“He’s been really good,” Saban said to the media on Wednesday following practice. “He’s smart, bright. Got a lot of experience, can play multiple positions, is a really good communicator, which is one of the things that we’ve been harping on with the guys in the back end because that’s just like the offensive line.

“Everybody’s gotta be on the same page with how we’re covering people, what we’re doing, how we’re adjusting. So communication is really important. Confidence to communicate is important, and Malachi is probably the best guy on the team that we have to do that right now. But we need to get more guys to be able to communicate, but he’s done a really, really good job with multiple positions.”
Moore has been with the program since 2020 where he started as a true freshman in the Alabama secondary which won the national championship that year.
Since then he has battled injuries but has remained a mainstay in Saban’s defense and his level of experience in the system has given him the confidence needed to lead the secondary this fall.
