Alabama’s specialists were its most valuable players against Texas for much of the game.
James Burnip, a native Australian, produced his best outing for the Crimson Tide as a punter. He flipped the field beautifully by averaging 52.6 yards per punt on five attempts. Burnip posted 263 yards punting and limited the Longhorns from creating positive yards on returns. Three of his punts traveled 50+ yards, including a long attempt of 61 yards. Burnip had three punts downed inside Texas’ 20-yard line. His exceptional performance kept Alabama within striking distance, despite a 24-34 loss.
