Nick Saban named Jalen Milroe Alabama’s starting quarterback on Monday, but the question remained who would step in should anything happen during its game against Ole Miss?
Saban answered that question during his final press conference of the week on Wednesday, stating that redshirt freshman Ty Simpson has taken the most reps with the second unit this week.
“Right now Ty Simpson is getting the most work with the twos,” Saban said. “I thought he did a good job when he went in the game. So he’s kind of earned the right to be in that position and I’m sure he’ll continue to compete and try to get better and that’ll be good for us in the long term.

“We want to develop every player that we have at that position and we’ll continue to work with all those guys so they all get reps and have a chance to improve.”
Simpson replaced Notre Dame transfer Tyler Buchner during the Crimson Tide’s 17-3 game against USF last Saturday where he led two scoring drives in his roughly two quarters of action.
On the season, Simpson has completed 6-of-10 passes for 78 yards and has rushed for two touchdowns in two games.
Milroe will lead Alabama against Ole Miss on Saturday, at 2:30 p.m. with CBS on the call.
