Texas A&M wide receiver, Ainias Smith is not shying away from the fact he is taking the Aggies’ Saturday matchup with Alabama personal.
Smith is the younger brother of former Crimson Tide defensive back, Maurice Smith.
Maurice graduated from the University of Alabama in three years and attempted to transfer to Georgia as a graduate transfer, but his transfer was blocked by Alabama in 2016. Nick Saban defended the decision.
Maurice eventually transferred to Georgia and was cleared to play immediately. He played for the Bulldogs in 2016 before playing four seasons in the NFL.
Ainias Smith was questioned Monday about his feelings towards the situation and how it impacts Saturday’s game.
“I feel like this game is always more personal, every time I play them,” Smith said. “What had happened, that’s in the past now. I’m not able to control it, but every time I do look on that sideline, I do think about what happened, and I’ll definitely be thinking about it. It’s more personal for sure.”
The Aggie wide receiver is confident heading into Saturday’s matchup based on his familiarity with Saban.
“I kind of know what Nick Saban expects from his offense, from his defensive side,” said Smith “I’m not trying to be cocky or nothing, but his class, my brother’s class, they was nice. They was real nice. No disrespect to Alabama right now, but them boys was always 1, 2, like, it was no questions. Right now, I guess with the rankings, you could say, I ain’t even gonna say that. But at the same time, I know what Nick Saban wants, and we’re gonna mess that up. If them boys don’t got no momentum for real, we’re gonna have to take that away, immediately.”
Alabama and Texas A&M will square off in College Station on Saturday. Kickoff is set for 2:30 p.m. CST.
