“Rammer Jammer” blared at Kyle Field as Alabama fans watched their team earn a 26-20 victory over Texas A&M.

In a marquee road game to control the SEC West, the Crimson Tide handled adversity, crowd noise, national media, and the Aggies at College Station, Texas. Tommy Rees, Alabama’s offensive coordinator, was a significant question mark heading into the showdown against Texas A&M’s defense. DJ Durkin, the Aggies’ defensive coordinator, brought in the best group in the Southeastern Conference and one of the nation’s elite defensive fronts. Tide fans were concerned about Rees’ creativity as a play-caller and whether he would be able to attack Texas A&M’s secondary. The 30-year-old turned a corner and had sophomore quarterback Jalen Milroe produce his best outing. Milroe recorded career-highs for completions (21) and passing yards (321) while tying his career mark for touchdown passes (three). He had three touchdown passes last year versus the Aggies at home.
Rees dialed up several moments for Milroe to take deep shots.

His play-calling allowed wide receiver Jermaine Burton to celebrate his best outing as an Alabama player. Burton, a senior, totaled a game-high 197 yards receiving and two touchdowns on nine receptions. He averaged 21.9 yards per catch. Isaiah Bond, a sophomore, had seven catches for 96 yards — including a 52-yard touchdown in the second quarter. Rees took advantage of the Aggies’ secondary, especially when Alabama’s offensive line gave Milroe time to throw the ball. People wondered if the Tide could win a marquee matchup on Milroe’s arm, and Rees helped his young quarterback answer critics. Alabama needs to continue fine-tuning its rushing attack, but this week’s matchup against Arkansas for homecoming should help it. Rees emerged in a big spot to offset Durkin and the Aggies’ defense. He is starting to find his rhythm as a play-caller at Alabama, and fans want to see more.
