Alabama wide receiver picks up huge recognition from Senior Bowl staff

John David Mercer - USA Today Sports

Alabama wide receiver Jermaine Burton has become the Crimson Tide’s No. 1 target.

He has started falling in the footsteps of Julio Jones, Amari Cooper, and Calvin Ridley of the Nick Saban era. Burton, a former Georgia transfer, is thriving with the Crimson Tide in his second season. The California native has bought into the Alabama football culture and wants a national championship with this team. He recorded his best performance as a Tide playmaker last week at Kyle Field versus Texas A&M. Burton totaled a game-high nine catches for 197 yards receiving and two touchdowns.

He averaged 21.9 yards per catch on 13 targets, including eight receptions over 10 yards. Burton made three pivotal catches on third downs to keep Alabama’s offense on the field. Two of his three third-down receptions went for touchdowns. Jim Nagy, the Executive Director for the Reese’s Senior Bowl, and his staff recognized Burton as the “Stock Up Player of the Week.”

Burton is increasing his value for next year’s NFL Draft.

His routes, hands, competitiveness, and leadership allow him to become a first to second-round selection. He can be a concrete first-rounder or a top-15 value if he continues to show up in marquee matchups for the rest of the season.
