The left tackle spot on Alabama’s offensive line has been a bit of a mixed bag to this point in the season as true freshman offensive lineman Kadyn Proctor has had his ups and downs throughout.
After earning the starting spot in the spring, Proctor struggled in the early portion of the season which caused head coach Nick Saban to open the door on the competition at the position with redshirt freshman Elijah Pritchett beginning to also rotate in during games.
Following the Crimson Tide’s Bye week, Saban gave his analysis of how Proctor has progressed since.
“Kadyn Proctor’s getting better and I think he’s gaining experience and learning,” Saban said. “What we want him to do is not worry so much about making a mistake that he’s not playing aggressively, and that’s what we’ve been working on with him. I think he’s getting better and he’s getting more confident.”

Proctor, who signed Alabama as a five-star recruit in the class of 2023, has received his fair share of criticism for his growing pains. He currently leads the Crimson Tide in sacks allowed (9), total pressures (23) and is tied for the lead in penalties (4) on the offensive line, per PFF.
But Proctor could be shaping into form at the right time for Alabama as Saban believed he played one of his better games in the team’s 34-20 win over Tennessee two weeks ago.
“I thought he played fairly well,” Saban said. “He had a play or two that I’m sure he’d tell you and I’d tell you and his coach would tell you, that we didn’t execute exactly correctly. But those plays are getting fewer and fewer and the good plays are getting greater and greater.”
Alabama will kickoff against LSU at 6:45 p.m. on Saturday inside Bryant-Denny Stadium with CBS on the call.
