Nick Saban gave high praise to the LSU Tigers’ linebacker, Harold Perkins, during his Wednesday press conference.
Perkins is one of the most versatile defenders in college football. He currently has 39 tackles and three sacks on the season.
Saban rattled off the different things Perkins can do on defense during his most recent presser.
“He makes plays all over the place,” Saban said. “This guy is a really good athlete, really good player, very explosive. Sometimes they play him out in the apex. He’s a great blitzer. He can play like star and re-route people and make stuff plays in the passing game. Sometimes he plays in the box, sometimes he plays on the edge. He’s got great first-step quickness. He’s a good pass rusher. That’s why he has so many tackles for loss and sacks and things like that. But I think this guy’s one of the most dynamic players in our league.”
Perkins was productive in LSU’s win over Alabama last season. He shadowed Bryce Young for a good portion of the game as he was assigned to perform a QB spy. He finished the game with eight total tackles and one sack.
Alabama and Saban are preparing to see Perkins be used all over the Tigers’ defense, which is something Saban feels is not easy to replicate.
“I don’t think you can simulate it,” said Saban. “If we had somebody that could play like him, they’d be playing, so they wouldn’t be on the scout team. We do the best we can, and I think our guys do a really good job, both sides of the ball, trying to give a good look to the defensive players. But it’s hard to simulate. It’s hard to be that deep on your team and be able to simulate.”
Alabama and LSU will square it in a night game with a 6:45 p.m. kickoff time on Saturday, Nov. 4.
