The University of Alabama will be without two defensive starters for Saturday’s matchup against Kentucky, but sources have confirmed to Touchdown Alabama Magazine that a veteran offensive presence will be out as well.
Nick Saban has Deontae Lawson (linebacker, ankle) and Jaylen Key (safety, quad) as ‘very questionable’ after suffering injuries versus Louisiana State University. Both have not practiced this week. The Crimson Tide is hopeful to have them back soon; however, Saban said he expects others to step up. Jihaad Campbell, a sophomore, will replace Lawson as a starting inside linebacker next to Trezmen Marshall. Kendrick Blackshire, a third-year linebacker, will see action as well. Kristian Story is the immediate backup behind Key at free safety, but the Tide could also have Malachi Moore play the position, move Terrion Arnold to ‘Star,’ and have Trey Amos play cornerback. Coach Saban has the depth on defense to fill in for Lawson and Key.

Ja’Corey Brooks, a junior wide receiver, has been dealing with a banged-up shoulder.
According to sources, he will be “out” for Saturday’s game versus the Wildcats.
His role in the offense has not been as prominent this season as it has been in recent years. Brooks led Alabama for touchdown catches (eight) in 2022 and caught the game-tying touchdown as a freshman versus Auburn in the 2021 Iron Bowl. He is a significant part of the Tide’s production on special teams, but the South Florida native has three catches for 30 yards.

Jermaine Burton, a senior, has been the go-to receiver. He leads the team in receiving yards (537) and touchdowns (five).
Isaiah Bond, a sophomore, anchors the group for receptions (28) and has 420 yards with three scores. Amari Niblack, a tight end, has three touchdowns, and Kendrick Law and Kobe Prentice are more involved. Alabama has managed to be okay without Brooks on offense, but it would like to get him fully healthy. The Tide eyes a chance to win the SEC West on the road this weekend.
