Crimson Tide supporters wanted him to be more decisive as a runner, and he’s blossomed into it. Milroe has been playing his best football since getting benched in week three versus South Florida. The sophomore accounted for 10 total touchdowns to one interception in back-to-back games against Southeastern Conference competition. He became the first quarterback in Alabama history to record four rushing scores in a matchup against Louisiana State University. Milroe returned with a six-touchdown performance versus Kentucky, matching Bryce Young (2022) and Tua Tagovailoa (2019) for most in Crimson Tide history for a single game. The native Texan has 28 total touchdowns on the season, ranking him 10th all-time in school history in total scores.
Milroe was named a semifinalist for the Maxwell Award.

The news was announced on Monday via Maxwell Football Club as the honor is presented annually to the College Football Player of the Year. Alabama’s had five players in program history to capture the award since 1937. AJ McCarron got it first in 2013, and Derrick Henry (2015), Tua Tagovailoa (2018), DeVonta Smith (2020), and Bryce Young (2021) follow suit. Milroe is next in line to win it for the Tide, especially if he continues to play at a high level. He takes on Chattanooga this weekend at 11:00 a.m. CT.
