A former ESPN analyst has doubled down on a statement he made to Nick Saban’s face.
David Pollack, a University of Georgia alumnus, told Coach Saban on the ESPN set for the 2023 College Football Playoff National Championship Game (2022 season) that Georgia had overtaken Alabama as the “new standard” of college football.

Pollack returns with a new shot at Saban, stating Kirby Smart is ‘clearly a better coach than Saban.’ On the Snaps podcast with Aaron Murray and T-Bob Hebert, Pollack said the discipline that Saban once had with the Crimson Tide has ‘eroded.’

“Here is what I can say clear-cut about this game when I start to give an advantage, the better coach is clearly Kirby Smart,” Pollack said. “Now, I have enough evidence. They (Georgia) are not going to get penalties, they are not going to turn the football over, they are not going to beat themselves. What have we seen from Nick Saban and Alabama over the past several years, that discipline we once saw that was elite has eroded. The penalties are up, turnovers have been more consistent … The one thing I know and I know nobody wants to hear it, but Kirby is the better coach right now.”
Pollack is coming in hot, but Smart is 1-4 against Saban.
Georgia lost in the SEC Championship Game to Alabama in 2012, 2018, and 2021. Smart got the better of Saban in the 2022 CFP National Championship Game (2021 season), but he carries a losing record against Saban. Alabama is hungry after falling to the Bulldogs two years ago, but we will see what happens in Saturday’s matchup from Mercedes-Benz Stadium.
