Lane Kiffin made a new addition to his staff at Ole Miss for this upcoming season as the Rebels have hired former Alabama tight ends coach Joe Cox according to 247Sports’ Matt Zenitz. Cox will be taking the place of John David Baker who departed for the offensive coordinator job at East Carolina.

Cox joined the Crimson Tide in 2022 under head coach Nick Saban but was not retained on Kalen DeBoer’s new staff for this year.

During his stop at Alabama, Saban had a great deal of praise for Cox referring to him as one of the bright young coaches in the sport.

“Coach Cox is probably one of the brightest young guys that we’ve seen in a while, so we’re glad to have him on the staff,” Saban said back on Aug. 8.

The former Georgia backup quarterback began his coaching career at the high school level at Mallard Creech in 2014 before joining Colorado State in 2015 as a graduate assistant. He would then be promoted to tight ends coach from 2016-19 which would lead to his first stint in the SEC as a wide receivers coach at South Carolina in 2020 but was not retained with the program after the firing of then head coach Will Muschamp.

He would then make a brief stop at Charlotte as a tight ends coach until he finally got on Saban’s radar.
