The “Let All Naysayers Know” or LANK mindset runs through him in spring practice for Alabama football.
Jalen Milroe, a junior quarterback, wants to prove to everyone he is a complete player. He grew tremendously as a first-year starter in 2023 underreported Tommy Rees and Nick Saban. Milroe, a native of Katy, Texas, took the Crimson Tide to a Southeastern Conference Championship, dethroning Georgia, and a College Football Playoff appearance. He collected 2,834 passing yards and 35 total touchdowns. The 6-foot-2, 220-pounder did a lot of great things, but he knows there are aspects of his game that need work. He improved those things in the offseason before spring practice and has looked good under Kalen DeBoer.

Milroe has taken strongly to DeBoer’s offense and Nick Sheridan, Alabama’s offensive coordinator/quarterbacks coach, is mentoring him to be even better. Coach DeBoer spoke to Ryan Fowler, host of The Game w/Ryan Fowler on Tide 100.9 FM, on Wednesday after the Crimson Tide’s Pro Day. He highlighted Milroe as the ‘headliner’ in the room at quarterback.

“Jalen has taken every snap with the first team all spring,” DeBoer said.
“He is a proven guy that has done a great job. Last year, he led a football team to a semifinal game and that is not easy. He led them to a conference championship, an SEC one at that… he has just done some great things. Jalen has multiple pieces to his game he can excel at. We have some great ones in the room, but Jalen has certainly been headlining that room. He is really doing a great job of taking in the offense, leading, he’s done a great job in all facets in things you want a quarterback to do.”
Everyone in the quarterback room is competing, but Milroe is holding things in order.
Alabama will have its first scrimmage Saturday of spring practice at Bryant-Denny Stadium.
It is going to be fun to see what Milroe does when the lights come on in the first game-like practice.
