Throughout his four years in college football, Jalen Hurts has been a part of historic comebacks and showered with awards.
So when asked what his favorite memory was during his time as the quarterback at Alabama or Oklahoma, one would imagine he would select one from the obvious. Instead Hurts’ most cherished memory came early on in his career with the Crimson Tide.
During a fan Q&A shared to the Philadelphia Eagles YouTube, Hurts shared that his favorite memory was playing scout-team quarterback when he enrolled early as Alabama prepared for Clemson in the national championship.
“My favorite college football memory was the beginning of it all, when I early enrolled,” Hurts said. “Immediately, I was thrust into being the scout-team quarterback as like a senior in high school essentially. I was the scout-team quarterback. I was playing Deshaun Watson on the scout team.
“I learned a lot quick. I earned my respect that quick, but it was very challenging. But it was fun. I think that was probably the best part for me, my favorite memory, because I made a lot of good friends. I just earned their respect as a young’un.”
With the help from a young Hurts at practice, the Crimson Tide were able to defeat Watson and the Tigers 45-40, beginning one of the more famous recent college football rivalries.
That next fall, Hurts would become Alabama’s first quarterback to start as a true freshman under Nick Saban where he would lead the team back to the national title.
Today, Hurts is one of the top quarterbacks in the NFL and is working to help the Eagles return to the Super Bowl this upcoming season.
