College football fans everywhere around the country were put on notice on Saturday night about the next great Alabama pass catcher in Ryan Williams.
Williams is just 17-years-old and should still technically be in high school, but the average eye may not guess this after watching Williams’ two-touchdown, 139-yard performance in his collegiate debut against Western Kentucky on Saturday.
The Alabama native said he went into the game not thinking about his age.
“When I was younger, I always played up so it was never a matter of age,” Williams said. “I try not to use age as an excuse because if I would’ve gotten man-handled out there I still wouldn’t want it to be an excuse, so I don’t focus on that, I just focus on playing because at the end of the day it’s football.”
Williams attended Saraland High School where he was a two time Mr. Football award winner. This propelled him into becoming one of the nation’s top receiver recruits, graduating early and enrolling at Alabama in the summer.
It will be interesting to see Williams’ development throughout his freshman year.
