During the offseason, Alabama hired Ryan Grubb as its new offensive coordinator. The hiring signals Alabama’s willingness to adapt and evolve as an offense. One position group that should benefit from the hiring of Grubb is tight end.
In 2023, Grubb used an offensive gameplan at Washington that featured a number of skilled players. Two of which included tight ends Jake Westover and Devin Culp. The pair combined to have 62 receptions for 641 yards and six touchdowns.
To put that into perspective, Alabama’s tight ends combined to have 47 receptions for 592 yards and three touchdowns.
Clearly, Grubb emphasizes the importance of getting multiple playmakers involved in the offense. With Alabama having experience and young talent at the tight end position, it would be surprising to see the group not see increased opportunities in 2025.
Whether it be as a safety blanket or as the primary option, the tight ends should be more intricate to the team’s success in 2025.
The group consists of redshirt senior Josh Cuevas, redshirt junior Danny Lewis Jr., redshirt freshman Jay Lindsey, freshman Marshall Pritchett, and freshman Kaleb Edwards. There is limited experience among the group, but the talent is present.
It will certainly be interesting to see how each of them perform throughout the spring and fall.
