3 Alabama offensive linemen competing to start at left guard

Mar 21, 2024; Tuscaloosa, Alabama, USA; Offensive linemen Olaus Alinen and Parker Brailsford work on the blocking sled during practice at the University Alabama Thursday.

Alabama football’s starting center, Parker Brailsford provided some insight on the Tide’s competition at left guard on Thursday.

Tyler Booker started at left guard for Alabama in 12 games during the 2024 season before he announced he was entering the NFL Draft.

The Tide are now looking for a replacement for Booker, and Geno VanDeMark, Kam Dewberry and Olaus Alinen are names to now, per Brailsford.

“I know they’re like newer guys, but they still played a lot of ball, and they’re both really smart,” said Brailsford. “Even Olaus is, all three of them. They’re all going to be battling for it. So, we’ll just see what happens.”

VanDeMark transferred to Alabama from Michigan State before the start of the 2024 season. He saw action in every game last season and started in one at left guard. Dewberry saw most of his staff at left guard while at Texas A&M in 2024 while Alinen saw most of his action on special teams in every game.

Brailsford is getting comfortable playing beside each of them this spring.

“A lot of different guys are rotating in on the left side, and it don’t really feel any different,” Brailsford said. “Just like I could be working with Geno on the left side and then Kam could come in or somebody else can come in. It wouldn’t really feel any different, like Olaus or whoever.”

The left guard position is yet another position for Alabama fans to monitor on A-Day.
