Alabama football’s defensive coordinator Kane Wommack likes the growth he has seen from the Crimson Tide’s safety, Bray Hubbard.

Hubbard started in six games during the 2024 football season after Keon Sabb suffered a season-ending injury. The Mississippi product took full advantage of his playing time by forcing a fumble and pulling in three interceptions.

Wommack shared he feels Hubbard has taken his game to another level while reflecting on the impact the safety had in 2024.

“I mean we really challenged Bray in the offseason a year ago in the spring time,” Wommack said at the Mobile Sports Hall of Fame Induction Banquet. “He had an okay spring. He had a little bit better fall camp and then by the time his name was called to be our starter, I mean he came in and had tremendous production. You know Bray created a takeaway in every game that he started in and then I think he’s taken his game to another level this offseason just in terms of the leadership that he carries and brings.”

Hubbard signed with Alabama as an athlete prospect out of Ocean Springs, Mississippi. He primarily lined up at quarterback during his high school career.

Wommack thinks the former signal-caller has adjusted well to being a defensive back.

“You know this was a multi-sport, multi-positional football player athlete coming out of high school, and he has really settled into the nuances that make a great free safety and then all of a sudden you change systems and he’s adapted really well to that,” said Wommack. “So, I mean Bray is a production player. He’s a guy that can make plays for us. So I’m really excited to see what he’s going to do this year with the training.”
