Ty Simpson has not been named the starting quarterback for Alabama football, but he is considered the current favorite ahead of summer workouts.
The former five-star will be looking to secure the starting quarterback role in the fall.
Alabama’s head coach Kalen DeBoer was asked how close he felt Simpson was to winning the competition and starting against Florida State with the crew at Next Round Live.
“We’ll continue to let those guys compete through fall camp,” DeBoer said. “I think the way Ryan said it is very accurate. Ty’s made a lot of progress and just the 15 practices we had there. But we want to also give those other guys an opportunity to keep pushing and keep competing for the spot as a whole group. I want to word it carefully, but the whole group needs to still be better for us to accomplish what we need to including week one against Florida State. I’m pleased with how they’ve made the strides and starting with Ty, pleased with what he’s doing, but also they all got to keep taking those steps here.”
The Tide’s offensive coordinator Ryan Grubb shared Simpson would start at quarterback if Alabama had a spring game after 15 spring practices. However, Alabama’s quarterback competition remains ongoing.
