Former Alabama football head coach, Nick Saban was asked Tuesday about his thoughts on Ty Simpson at his annual Nick’s Kids charity golf tournament.

Simpson is involved in a quarterback battle with Keelon Russell and Austin Mack ahead of summer workouts.

The former five-star signed with the Crimson Tide when Saban was the head football coach at Alabama. Saban reflected back on his thoughts on Simpson as a recruit when discussing the Tennessee product.

“Ty was an outstanding high school player, no doubt,” Saban said. “He’s a fine young man. I think he is a true example of development. He matured and developed for two years and now he’s going to get the opportunity. I think those experiences are probably going to help him be successful. We’re rooting for him, that’s for sure. I have every confidence that he’ll do a great job.”

Kalen DeBoer continues to share that Alabama’s quarterback competition is ongoing, recently discussing a key factor the Tide’s staff will contribute before choosing their next starting quarterback while talking with Greg McElroy on ESPN’s “Always College Football”

“People sometimes get caught up into who’s great now,” said DeBoer. “Who had the best completion percentage? All those things. Those are all important, but I think in the end, it’s who’s moving the ball down the field for the ones, the twos most consistently when you’re here in practice each and every day.”
