Nick Saban tells why he is interested in helping Donald Trump improve college athletics

President Donald Trump shakes hands with legendary Alabama football coach Nick Saban before delivering a special commencement address to University of Alabama graduates at Coleman Coliseum on May 1, 2025. Graduation occurs over the weekend.

There has been reports of President Donald Trump establishing a NIL commission with former Alabama head coach, Nick Saban, serving as a chairman of the commission.

Saban provided reasoning on Tuesday morning at the Nick’s Kids Golf Tournament for why he would be interested in assisting Trump in helping improve college athletics.

“I know President Trump is very interested in athletics,” Saban said. “He’s very interested in college athletics. He’s very interested in maintaining the idea that people go to college to create value for the future in terms of how they develop as people, students, graduation rate as well as having a balanced, competitive playing field. If I can be a consultant to anyone who might be able to help the future of college athletics, I would be more than happy to do that.”

It will be interesting to see if the two are able to work together in the future to create a more sustainable NIL model as well as maintain the idea that college sports are for education and athletic development.
