At the SEC Spring Meetings, Alabama football head coach Kalen DeBoer said the Tide’s current quarterback competition is a healthy one and highlighted what has pleased him the most about the three quarterbacks in May.
Ty Simpson, Austin Mack and Keelon Russell are still competing for the Crimson Tide’s starting quarterback role before the Crimson Tide get summer workouts rolling.
While there were no team activities the last few weeks, DeBoer liked what he saw from the quarterback room from a leadership perspective through player-led workouts.
“These guys did a great job, all three of them, of doing some of these leadership things and going places and bringing guys together,” DeBoer said. “And the best part about it was it wasn’t just one quarterback took three guys and another quarterback took these four. They all did it together, and that’s what I appreciate about these guys. It is a competition. I’ve referred to it as a healthy one just because they all respect each other. They’re all going as hard as they can. They’re gonna step on each other’s toes at times in that leadership role and things like that, but so be it. I appreciate the way they’ve gone after it.”
Alabama football’s quarterback competition is expected to continue through fall camp.
