Texas is ranked No. 1 in the poll. Ohio State, Penn State, Georgia and Notre Dame round out the top five behind the Longhorns. Clemson at No. 6 and Oregon at No. 7 sit right ahead of Alabama.
The Crimson Tide are coming off a 9-4 season under Kalen DeBoer.
Alabama will open the season on the road against Florida State on Aug. 30.
