One of Alabama’s biggest changes from last season to this season is having Ryan Grubb as its new offensive coordinator.

In 2024, Grubb was originally set to be the offensive coordinator before taking a job with the Seattle Seahawks, so Kalen DeBoer turned to Nick Sheridan, a coach that has followed DeBoer from Indiana to Washington before joining him at Alabama.

Sheridan was elevated from coaching tight ends to calling plays for the Crimson Tide.

Once Grubb was let go from the Seahawks, DeBoer brought him to Tuscaloosa for good, giving him the role he was originally set to have. DeBoer gave Sheridan the quarterbacks coach role.

Alabama wide receivers coach JaMarcus Shephard told media on Monday the transition has been ‘seamless’ and spoke highly of Sheridan.

“I love coach Sheridan,” Shephard said. “Coach Sheridan and I started our careers off together my first year of coaching and his first year of coaching. It has been a seamless transition. That is a man of high integrity. No ego. Comes to work every single day and gives his all every single day. The quarterbacks are adjusting to him all day every day, being able to have even more access to him, and this has been a very seamless process.”

Sheridan and Shephard coached together at Western Kentucky in 2012. Sheridan was the quarterback’s coach while Shephard’s role was quality control coach.

With the current quarterback battle in fall camp, Sheridan will continue to have an important role in the development of these quarterbacks through fall camp and the upcoming season.
