Alabama football is ranked No. 4 in the first College Football Playoff Rankings of the season.

The Crimson Tide is 7-1 and projected to receive a first-round bye in the current official projections for the playoff. Here are some initial takeaways from the Tide’s rankings:

– Alabama is in full control of its own destiny

Alabama has full control of its own destiny with this No. 4 ranking. The Tide can win out, compete and take home an SEC Championship and sit back during the first round of the playoff with a bye.

– Alabama football’s resume is strong, but it could get stronger

Alabama has wins over four opponents ranked in the first College Football Playoff Rankings with wins over Georgia, Vanderbilt, Missouri and Tennessee. Those teams finishing the season strong will only benefit the Tide. Alabama also has an opportunity to pick up another ranked win against No. 12 Oklahoma.

– Alabama is likely to survive 1 respectable loss

Alabama football’s resume puts it into a position where it could still get into the playoff if it loses respectfully to Oklahoma. Losing to either LSU or Auburn could be cause for concern, but the Tide will still have a strong argument to get into the playoff if they win three out of their last four games.
