Alabama football’s defensive back, Red Morgan made his first start of the season against Oklahoma, and he played in an impactful role in the Crimson Tide’s defensive performance against the Sooners.

The Alabama native finished the game with four total tackles, a tackle for loss and a forced fumble. The Tide’s defensive coordinator Kane Wommack described Morgan as someone who is becoming a complete player on Monday.

“He’s a good football player,” Wommack said. “He flashes, he’s bouncy, he’s very athletic and he’s hard to get your hands on in space… He’s kind of slippery, and he’s also a really physical kid. He’s probably one of the best strikers I’ve seen from a tackle perspective. There’s a timing and understanding to a great tackle and to get your foot and shoulder in the ground at the right time to where you have enough forward shin angle and enough lean to be able to maximize that power. Red’s probably as good as I’ve seen at being able to strike. He’s getting more and more comfortable with his consistency and his execution, just he’s better and better in man coverage. I know he got a penalty the other day, but I really thought he was in great position there. I thought he did a really good job. He’s just becoming a more and more complete player.”

Morgan gained meaningful experience as a true freshman in 2024. He played in every game last season as an unofficial starter in Alabama’s secondary. Wommack has enjoyed watching Morgan develop over the last two years.

“That’s a young man that we asked a whole hell of a lot of a year ago to come in here and start for us as a true freshman,” Wommack told reporters. “It was because we didn’t have another answer. We put a whole lot on his plate.
And some things he handled really well, and some things he had to really push through the adversity. But now he’s come out on the other side as a very good football player. So proud of his fight, excited to see what he’ll do on the back end of the season.”

Alabama fans should get ready to see a lot of Morgan moving forward.
