NFL Draft analyst says Ty Simpson is ‘not worthy’ of being the 16th overall pick

NFL Draft Analyst Daniel Jeremiah feels Fernando Mendoza is the only quarterback worth being a first-round pick in the 2026 NFL Draft, and he is likely to be the No. 1 overall pick by the Las Vegas Raiders.

Another team in need of a quarterback is the New York Jets. The franchise has two first-round picks with both the No. 2 overall pick and the No. 16 overall pick. Getting a quarterback at No. 16 is something many feel the Jets will at least consider.

Alabama’s quarterback, Ty Simpson has been linked to the Jets in recent mock drafts as the 16th overall pick. However, Jeremiah feels Simpson and every other quarterback not named Fernando Mendoza is not worthy of being the 16th overall pick.

“I know quarterback is a huge need for the Jets, but I don’t see a QB worthy of the 16th overall pick this year,” Jeremiah wrote.

Simpson is coming off a solid season as the Crimson Tide’s starting quarterback. A lot of analysts consider him to be the No. 2 quarterback in the 2026 draft class, behind Mendoza, but there are analysts who still feel he will not be a first round pick.
