Has Alabama potentially found a team captain in the middle of its defense early in spring camp?
Kalen DeBoer highlighted a name on Tuesday for reporters in his first media availability. He singled-out Caleb Woodson, a transfer from Virginia Tech, as someone that has stood out with his leadership.
Woodson was highly productive for the Hokies, especially last season with 58 tackles, 2.5 tackles for loss, a pass breakup, and a quarterback hurry.
He posted six career hurries on quarterbacks.
Woodson’s experience puts him in an opportunity to start at middle “Mike” or “Sting” linebacker, but DeBoer sees more about him that makes Woodson valuable.
“Bringing in Caleb as a captain-type guy,” DeBoer said. “His leadership coming in has been certainly noted and appreciated.”
It looks like the transfer is already making an impact at inside linebacker.
We will see if Woodson continues to make waves in practice.
