New Alabama offensive assistant coaches “know how it should look,” per Kalen DeBoer

Kalen DeBoer made an uncomfortable decision in having some offensive assistant coaches go, but he stepped up by getting guys that may be upgrades.

What has DeBoer seen from Alabama football’s rebuilt offensive line early in spring?

The third-year head coach for Alabama football addressed reporters in his first media availability after Tuesday’s practice. One of the first things he discussed was how he felt about the Crimson Tide’s three new assistant coaches on offense.

Alabama hired Derrick Nix, Richard Owens, Adrian Klemm.

Nix, a former Auburn assistant, coached wide receivers. Owens takes over as tight ends coach, replacing Bryan Ellis — who got promoted to quarterbacks coach after Nick Sheridan left to Michigan State. Adrian Klemm is now in Tuscaloosa (Ala.) as the offensive line after a season at the University of Southern California.

Coach DeBoer says he loves the mindset of all three coaches as they look to help the Tide return to winning championships.

DeBoer asked about Alabama football’s A-Day format

“I think it is the experience that they have,” DeBoer said about Klemm, Nix, and Owens.

“Whether it is at this level or the NFL, they know what it is supposed to look like. The thing that jumps out at me, with them in particular, is how efficient they can be. The great coaches can identify something, articulate it quickly, and it makes sense to the player.”

DeBoer said the players have ‘adjusted well’ because of the expertise of all three coaches.

It will be very interesting to see how all three coaches impact the players this season.
