ESPN’s Stephen A. Smith wants Ty Simpson to get drafted by the Pittsburgh Steelers in the first round of the 2026 NFL Draft.

The Steelers have the No.21 overall pick in this week’s draft, and the organization may be in the market for a quarterback.

Smith said Dan Orlovsky has convinced him to believe in Simpson.

“I want to see the Steelers draft Ty Simpson,” Smith said. “That’s what I want to see. You have gotten me high on Ty Simpson. I interviewed the kid too. I watched him play this year, seen them lost some games on the tail end of the season. They weren’t ready for Georgia for the SEC Championship game. They certainly wasn’t ready for Indiana in the College Football Playoff, but I know the brother can play. I think the Steelers so desperately need somebody we can look at and say this is the future of the franchise. Anybody from the quarterback spot that has the potential to have that said about them, if they land at No. 21 with Steelers, I want the Steelers to take them rather than waiting for Aaron Rodgers, approaching age 43, to let the world know he going to play this season.”

Orlovsky has gone on record and said he feels Simpson is the best quarterback in this year’s draft.

“I think Ty Simpson is QB1,” Orlovsky said on ESPN’s Get Up. “I think Ty Simpson is the best quarterback in this class. I think when you look at the body of work and what was asked of these two quarterbacks, you have to start with the question, who needed to do more to carry their football team to play well? Ty Simpson and it’s not close between those two quarterbacks.”

Simpson will learn about the next step in his football journey this week. The draft is set to start on Thursday.
