Alabama offers son of former NFL linebacker at quarterback

Alabama football extended an offer to Justin Merriman after he worked out in Tuscaloosa on Monday in front of the Alabama football coaching staff.

Merriman is a 2029 quarterback prospect who attends St. Frances Academy in Baltimore, Maryland. He is also the son of former NFL linebacker Shawne Merriman. The rising sophomore considers his Alabama offer to be a special one.

“It means so much,” Merriman told Touchdown Alabama. “Alabama is one of the best programs of all time. It’s an amazing place. The facilities are amazing there.”

Justin already possesses the length that made his dad a dominant figure as an NFL linebacker. He reports a height of 6-foot-4 and a weight of 205 pounds. The new Alabama target feels his frame empowers his game in more ways than one.

“I use my big frame in everything I do, when I run, move in the pocket and extend plays,” Merriman said.

The Crimson Tide looks to be making it a priority to add at least one quarterback in each recruiting class. Alabama is currently on pace to add two quarterbacks in back-to-back classes. It remains to be seen if that will be the case after the 2027 recruiting cycle wraps.

Alabama will look to continue to build its relationship with Merriman over the next several years.
