Where Alabama football is ranked in ESPN’s FPI ahead of the 2026 season

Alabama football is ranked No. 8 in ESPN’s Football Power Index ahead of the 2026 football season.

No. 1 Ohio State Buckeyes, No. 2 Texas Longhorns, No. 3 Notre Dame Fighting Irish, No. 4 Oregon Ducks, No. 5 Georgia Bulldogs, No. 6 Indiana Hoosiers and No. 7 Miami Hurricanes are the teams ranked ahead of the Tide.

The FPI is a measure of team strength that is meant to be the best predictor of a team’s performance going forward for the rest of the season. FPI represents how many points above or below average a team is. Projected results are based on 20,000 simulations of the rest of the season using FPI, results to date, and the remaining schedule. Ratings and projections update daily. FPI data from seasons prior to 2019 may not be complete, according to ESPN.

Alabama will take on six teams ranked in the top 25 of the FPI during the 2026 season.

ESPN’s FPI has the Tide projected to win 8.6 games and lose 3.6 games. It gives Alabama football a 41.3 chance to make the College Football Playoff.
